Health Minister: No need for panic; seasonal viruses are common

The Georgian Health Minister, Zurab Azarashvili, assured the public that the current seasonal virus surge in the country is common. There’s no cause for alarm.

Speaking to journalists after a government session, Azarashvili mentioned that the country had introduced the appropriate multi-component flu vaccine at the beginning of autumn, actively encouraging the population to get vaccinated through various campaigns.

“What is occurring in the country today is the typical seasonal outbreak of viruses. This is not exclusive to Georgia but is observed worldwide. These viral infections tend to peak seasonally, typically at the end of January, but there is no need for alarm. The virus is primarily affecting children, but there is nothing extraordinary to panic about. Regarding vaccinations and flu vaccines, we currently have an adequate supply, and anyone interested can receive the appropriate vaccinations,” the Minister said.

Responding to concerns about clinic overcrowding and potential bed shortages due to high referrals, Azarashvili stated that there is no danger in this regard.
