Health Minister: More than 100 children hospitalized following possible kindergarten intoxication

Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze says more than 100 children required hospitalization in connection with the reported cases of possible intoxication at Tbilisi kindergartens.

According to the minister, none of the children experienced complications or faced any anticipated health risks.

“As an investigation is underway, we need to wait for the final results, because an investigation is the best and most qualified instrument for establishing the circumstances.

“What I can say at this stage is that more than 100 children required hospitalization during this wave. Fortunately, however, in no case was a child’s condition such that it required extraordinary attention. There were no cases of complications or anticipated risks.

“Fortunately, everything passed calmly, but this does not mean that all the circumstances surrounding what happened should be investigated with any less attention. Naturally, the investigation will be conducted fully and comprehensively, and everything is being done to ensure this.

“As a result of a full investigation, we will know what happened, and everyone responsible will be held accountable. All strict measures compatible with the law will be taken, whether that means terminating a contract or bringing specific individuals to justice.

“I do not think the investigation will take long. We may have answers to everything very soon. This is the general approach,” Sarjveladze said.
