Head of Kodori Hydropower Plant department arrested for embezzlement

As a result of operational and investigative measures carried out by the State Security Service of Georgia, the head of a department at Kodori Hydropower Plant LLC—part of Enguri Hydropower Plant LLC—has been arrested on charges of large-scale embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.

According to the State Security Service, the company operates in the territory of occupied Abkhazia.

“The detained individual fully cooperated with the investigation and confessed to the crime. He has been charged under Article 182, Part 2, Subparagraph ‘d,’ and Part 3, Subparagraph ‘b’ of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides imprisonment for a term of 7 to 11 years.

For those who believe that the use of Georgia’s occupied territories allows them to misappropriate state funds, such crimes will not go unpunished—even if committed in those territories,” the statement reads.
