Medical Director of the Iashvili Children’s Hospital, Ivane Chkhaidze, said on Monday the influenza A virus and its subtypes H1N1 and H3N2 are circulating in the country

According to Chkheidze, flu severity is much higher than coronavirus, as it can cause headaches, muscle pain, coughing, and lung inflammation. “That’s why the main hospitalization rate stems from the flu.”

Alluding to the XBB.1.5 Omicron sub-variant of COVID-19, Chkhaidze said it was the most transmissible variant, currently dominant in 38 countries, but not yet reported in Georgia.
