Malkhaz Dolidze, the Head of the Georgian Bread Manufacturers Union, Monday urged the government to set reference prices for bread to prevent the shops from raising prices arbitrarily.
Dolidze believes the bread price can be lowered since the cost of flour on the world market has fallen, along with the customs tax. “This move is up to the shops for now.”
Georgia produces 150,000 tons of wheat out of 650,000 tons consumed nationwide annually.
“Unlike previous years, Georgia sees a big harvest this year,” Dolidze added.
