Half a century from ABBA's winning ESC

Fifty years ago a Swedish group ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).

ABBA won the ESC on April 6, 1974, by performing a contest song Waterloo in Great Britain.

The entry song soon became a top musical hit in Europe and beyond its boundaries. It was among the top 10 songs on Billboard Hot 100 in the US and a favorite song in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Sweden hosts the 2024 ESC at Malmo Arena with semi-finals to be held on May 7 and 9 and a grand final on May 11.
