Hague ICC elects Judge Gocha Lordkipanidze as President of Appeals Division
Judge Gocha Lordkipanidze has been elected as the President of the Appeals Division, the highest structural unit of the Hague International Criminal Court, the court’s official website announced.
Judge Lordkipanidze has been actively involved in international justice enforcement. He presided over appeals related to the Said Abdel Kani case and is currently overseeing the review of the Bosco Ntaganda appeal during the reparations stage.
In addition to these responsibilities, as an Appeals Division judge, he has participated in three other appeals and handled appeals, arising from situations in Afghanistan, the Philippines, and Venezuela. Judge Gocha Lortkipanidze also serves as a member of the advisory committee on legal texts of the court and leads a working group of judges to define an advisory role for the court.
Judge Gocha Lortkipanidze commenced his duties as a judge at the Hague International Criminal Court on April 19, 2021, having been elected to the position for a nine-year term. He is the first Georgian judge to hold this position at the court.
