“The voting day for the parliamentary elections on October 26, 2024, occurred against a backdrop of significant violations, primarily in an unequal, violent, and tense environment,” stated Nona Kurdovanidze, head of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA).
Kurdovanidze stated that the GYLA observation mission would highlight the main violations based on their content, intensity, and interrelationship. Key issues identified include violations of voting procedures, obstruction of observers, violations of voter secrecy, and influence on voters.
“The major violations observed on voting day, along with doubts about the reliability of the processes, underscore the need for clarification from the Central Election Commission. Specifically, when the complete list of voters is loaded into verification machines, what mechanisms ensure that duplicate lists have not been activated at different polling stations? This clarification is crucial, especially given the serious violations concerning marking procedures,” Kurdovanidze said.
She added that the GYLA observation mission continues to monitor the situation and is reviewing the summary protocols prepared by the precinct election commissions.
