GWP launches major water infrastructure overhaul as part of Rustaveli Avenue rehabilitation

Georgian Water and Power (GWP) has commenced large-scale works as part of the complete rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue. The project aims to deliver a comprehensive upgrade to the avenue’s water supply and wastewater infrastructure.

According to GWP, the works will involve the complete renewal of over five kilometres of water and wastewater networks. The upgraded system will feature 87 key sewer grates and 15 modern fire hydrants. The project is being executed in line with Aqualia’s rigorous international standards, ensuring the long-term durability of the infrastructure.

“The rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue is one of GWP’s largest investment projects. Notably, the works are being carried out in four main parallel phases. Throughout the process, the existing network will remain operational to ensure uninterrupted water supply. Once the new system is fully installed, infrastructure meeting modern standards will be brought into service,” stated Giga Nadiradze, Technical and Operational Director at GWP.

GWP is investing 12.5 million lari in the project, which will guarantee a reliable water supply for the capital’s central avenue and significantly improve service quality.
