Gvaramia to EU Ambassador: Opposition not to enter parliament; this government is pro-Russian

Leaders of three opposition coalitions met with the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczyński.

The meeting took place at the diplomatic mission’s office and included Nika Gvaramia, leader of the Coalition for Change; Badri Japaridze, leader of Strong Georgia; and Tina Bokuchava, leader of the United National Movement.

Following the meeting, Nika Gvaramia spoke to journalists, emphasizing the significance of the discussion for the three coalition leaders.

“I believe the Ambassador is well-informed, but we still provided additional information that extended beyond just outlining violations, as the details of those violations are already well-documented. We shared our proposals concerning an international investigation. It is crucial to remember that the fourth point of our recommendations is the necessity of free and fair elections. Therefore, the EU has both legal and political grounds to examine how this recommendation was implemented during these elections. It is evident to everyone that it has not been implemented, but conducting an in-depth study and preparing a specific report would be beneficial to reveal the complete picture.

We made it clear that we cannot enter Parliament, as we believe the Parliament lacks legitimacy in this context. Moreover, we anticipate larger, more impactful protests in the future. What is happening today is merely the beginning. We wanted the Ambassador to be aware of this, and we communicated that we would not allow our position to be used as leverage to forge closer ties with this government or to facilitate stability. Stability exists in European countries; this government is pro-Russian. We will not cease our efforts until our demand is met. Our demand is clear: new elections and a peaceful transfer of power,” stated Nika Gvaramia.
