Grigol Vashadze to participate in elections on behalf of National Movement Party
Grigol Vashadze, presidential candidate, will participate in presidential elections to be held on October 28 in Georgia on behalf of National Movement Party. The Central Election Commission (CEC) refused Grigol Vashadze to participate in the elections under the name of Power is in Unity.
As Giorgi Vashadze, head of the United Opposition election headquarters said at the briefing, this is another illegal decision of the Central Electoral Commission. “This is another unlawful decision of the Central Election Commission, which directly fulfills the task of the Georgian Dream government. We applied to the Central Election Commission with the request on September 28, but, unfortunately, the day before yesterday they refused to grant our request,” Vashadze said.
According to him, CEC Chairperson supported their request, but all other members, who are controlled by the Georgian Dream, did not. “I would like to tell the Georgian Dream, which is in a very difficult situation, that such tricks will not help them. I understand that you are trying to disorient our voters because we are campaigning on behalf of the United Opposition. I understand that you are frightened by our union, as there are 11 political entities. I understand that you want to portray this as a battle between two parties. But I want to tell you one thing – on October 28, Georgian voters will make an absolutely fair decision and say no to your illegal actions,” Giorgi Vashadze said.
