Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) won the Svetozar Stracina Grand Prix of the International Folk Music Festival Svetozar, organized by the Slovakian Public Broadcaster, for folk music’s best recording with the song Khasanbegura.
The winners were revealed on March 30. Twelve countries participated in the 11th competition.
Locals of Zemo Aketi village of the western Guria region of Georgia and members of the Shavnabada Ensemble perform “Khasanbegura” in the recording.
The authors of the recording are Davit Tsintsadze, a radio journalist and author of folklore programs “Chakrulo” and Traditional Music,” and voice directors Ramaz Churadze and Bako Khvichia.
The recording was made during an expedition to Zemo Aketi village at a Georgian Supra (feast) on the 80th jubilee of Anzor Erkomaishvili, a Georgian singer, composer, and folk music researcher.
