GPB Dir/Gen: Proud of Georgian radio's tradition, broad audience, and nationwide coverage
“We are proud that Georgian radio preserves its tradition, attracts a wide audience, and reaches every corner of the country,” stated Tinatin Berdzenishvili, the Director General of GPB First Channel.
“Today marks 99 years since the first radio broadcast in Georgia, a significant milestone both for our radio station and the entire country. This broadcast was the first radio signal in the South Caucasus and remains the oldest radio broadcasting service in Eastern Europe.
We are proud that Georgian radio preserves its tradition, attracts a broad audience, and reaches every corner of the country. Our radio station is unique as it offers diverse programs, with a significant focus on promoting Georgian and folk music,” Berdzenishvili stated.
GPB Director General announced the launch of a new program, ‘One Minute of Poetry’.
“Today, symbolically marking the 99th anniversary, we are launching a new program, ‘One Minute of Poetry.’ This program includes recordings from our golden archive, featuring poems by Galaktioni, Ana Kalandadze, Gogla Leonidze, and other Georgian poets, voiced by the authors and actors whose voices have been preserved by our radio,” Berdzenishvili added.
On May 23, Georgia celebrated the 99th anniversary of its first radio broadcast.
