The Georgian government is working to secure additional two million doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine, said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, adding that the state can also purchase the China-made vaccines if necessary, “leading to overcome the ordeal.”

PM claims a million people will be vaccinated in ten days, many double-jabbed among them. “With this pace, we will have two million vaccinated people by the end of September that turned in a big challenge for us and the healthcare system,” he stressed.

“Epidemiologists say September will be tough, on top of local elections. If we do not allow these vermins (hints at opposition) to hold a campaign, they will start unrest, speculation; they already know they will lose, so we need to find a middle ground,” PM stated.

PM thinks October will be stable. “We should not close the economy, we may impose local restrictions, but it will not affect the growth rate of the economy,” Garibashvili added.

As of today, Georgia reported 5,021 coronavirus cases, 5,041 recoveries, and 58 deaths, increasing the total case tally to 528,043, including 6,949 dead.

The local elections are scheduled for October 2.
