Gov't expands program for chronic disease treatment

Under the Georgian Government’s decision, the program for the treatment of chronic diseases is expanding, the Government Administration reported following the Cabinet meeting.

The citizens of the applicable category or status will be getting medication to treat glaucoma with full funding from the State during the whole year from January 15, 2024.

In addition, beneficiaries of the relevant category will get full funding for the following maladies during the whole year: cardio-vascular diseases, lung and thyroid gland illnesses in the chronic phase, as well as diabetes (Type 2), parkinson and epilepsy.

Novelties to the Universal Healthcare Program shall apply to the following individuals: socially vulnerable people (with a rating score not exceeding 100 000 units), age pensioners, veterans, persons with disabilities (children and adults with acute or significant disabilities) and residents of villages along the occupation line.

The Cabinet of Ministers also reviewed a Draft Government Decree on Defining a Social Security Package. According to the amendments, social allowances shall increase for disabled children and adults with acute disabilities from January 2024 in the value of 50 GEL to reach 340-390 GEL.

Cash allowance for persons with disabilities of any category shall increase by 20 GEL, including the acute ones from 175 to 195 GEL.

State Budget earmarking towards this end amounts to 46 mln GEL. Increased social security packages shall apply to almost 123,000 beneficiaries.
