“The Georgian government has announced a reward of three million GEL to the national basketball team in recognition of their historic achievement. Additionally, a further three million GEL will be allocated for each subsequent victory,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze revealed.

Kobakhidze congratulated the athletes during today’s government session, praising their performance.

“I want to extend my congratulations to our athletes on yesterday’s triumph, a truly historic day for our country. First and foremost, I congratulate the basketball team on their groundbreaking achievement; for the first time, our national team has ranked among Europe’s top eight teams. My gratitude goes to each player, the entire team, and the coaching staff for this impressive success. Special thanks also to the Basketball Federation, as such results are born of dedication and hard work. I wish them continued success, important matches lie ahead, and I am confident success will follow in the upcoming games.

I also wish to commend our footballers on their recent victory and extend my best wishes for success in the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.

Regarding the basketball team, given this historic milestone, we want to celebrate appropriately with a cash bonus from the government. We have decided to allocate GEL 3 million for their achievement so far, and the same amount for each subsequent victory at EuroBasket or other European Championships. This means a bonus of GEL 3 million for their current success, and an additional GEL 3 million for every future win. Such a scheme will be established,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

At EuroBasket 2025, Georgia’s national team defeated France and advanced to the tournament’s quarterfinals.
