GNERC to begin reviewing summer power outages on October 21
The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) will begin reviewing nationwide power outages that occurred in the summer of 2026 on October 21, Commission Chair Davit Narmania said.
Narmania made the announcement at a joint meeting of the parliamentary committees on Economic Policy and on Human Rights and Civil Integration, while presenting the Commission’s activity report. He was responding to a question from Sophio Khorguani.
Narmania said the Commission had investigated two major system-wide outages to determine whether Georgian State Electrosystem and certain power generation facilities had complied with network rules.
“When the two system-wide outages occurred, we launched an investigation into compliance with network rules by Georgian State Electrosystem and certain generation facilities. The Regulatory Commission has done a tremendous amount of work. We have examined all the technical issues and details thoroughly. The review of these matters at the Commission begins tomorrow. A report is being prepared, and the relevant matters will subsequently be made open and public,” Narmania said.
