GNERC deliberates on setting new water tariff, adjusting electricity tariff

Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) is considering the establishment of a new water tariff and the adjustment of the electricity tariff.

The commission is reviewing the financial, technical, and investment plans presented by the companies involved before making a final decision.

The current three-year term for the water tariff expires on December 31, and GNERC must decide on the water tariff for the next three years. The decision made today will be effective from January 1.

According to GNERC member Givi Sajikidze, there is an agreement in the water supply sector to invest 363 million GEL in the GWP network, which includes the water supply of Tbilisi and Rustavi. This represents a significant increase in investments, averaging a doubling per year.

“The new water tariff will be in effect for three years. As for electricity consumer tariffs, the commission’s decision today will be effective until July 1, 2024, aligning with the liberalization of the market on that date. Subsequent decisions will be made under the law,” he added.
