Girchi's Rakviashvili: Citizens acknowledge parliament by choosing not to protest in streets

“People are not taking to the streets, which, in fact, indicates their recognition of this parliament. There comes a time when one must acknowledge defeat, raise the white flag, and shift to a long-term strategy,” stated Aleksandre Rakviashvili, a member of the parliamentary Girchi party, during the Free Market program.

According to Rakviashvili, the large-scale protests intended to gain power were unsuccessful, and the opposition should extend an apology to the public.

“I would apologize to the people for the millions spent on elections, for deploying thousands of observers, and for sending people to monitor where it was necessary. I would also apologize for the performances staged on television and for entering elections without a clear vision. I acknowledge our defeat and say: if you can find it in your hearts to forgive us, I hope to secure a victory in 2028. This would have been our only chance. It’s the right way forward. However, I fear this too will fail, as our electoral lists include individuals lacking integrity.”
