“If not police, nothing would have happened at the April 30 anti-transparency bill rally. The police behaviour caused aggression among protesters,” said Iago Khvichia, a member of the parliamentary Girchi party.
According to Iago Khvichia, police officers physically assaulted peaceful protesters.
“The government should explain why it physically abused people and what it protected at that moment, the parliament building or the government. We have video material as evidence showing that people stood peacefully when police officers attacked them. The government digs a grave for itself, and I support them in digging it deep. The practice of using riot police without any justification or obvious protection of anything, physically beating innocent people, who, in essence, protest against the occupation and simply do not wish to be subdued by the occupier must be buried deep into the ground and never allowed to resurface,” Iago Khvichia said.
The MP believes that the government promotes radicalism.
“Bidzina Ivanishvili’s speech facilitated radicalism both within the country and among our Western partners. It is self-evident that this will have consequences of this type at the lower level. Those people in uniforms lined up at the rally are not our opponents. For them, in reality, the giver of the order is the target. I saw many supporters of the rally among the people in uniform, and I even talked to them personally. To be clear, we should not shame all police officers, but rather those who gave the order,” Iago Khvichia said.
