“The records of the State Security Service do not leak without the organization’s permission. The Georgian Dream is orchestrating a scenario of a fake revolution, but the real organizers will be their own people,” stated Iago Khvichia, the Girchi party leader.
Khvichia contended that the distribution of forged videos is intended to bolster the ruling party’s pre-election efforts. He recalled past instances when the SSG attempted to intimidate members of the clergy and noted that the individual responsible for making the videos public was either an acting or former employee of the SSG.
He believes that by creating these fabricated revolutionary scenarios, the ruling party will have a pretext to impose new restrictions.
“The Georgian Dream is staging a fake revolution as if it is being plotted, but the organizers will ultimately be their own people. When this revolution fails, the Georgian Dream will claim they have thwarted it and will introduce new constraints.
I suspect that this is far more realistic that the SSG records have somehow leaked without the SSG’s direct involvement, and my past experiences lead me to this conclusion. Such records do not typically emerge without permission from the organization. They are released when it serves the system’s interests. I cannot say for certain if the opposition has an informant within the SSG,” he explained.
According to intelligence gathered by the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), groups linked to political circles are reportedly planning to distribute forged video and audio recordings in the lead-up to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia.
