Giorgi Vashadze sentenced to seven months in prison for defying investigative commission
The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party, to seven months imprisonment for failing to comply with demands from Parliament’s temporary investigative commission. He has also been barred from holding public office for a period of two years.
The verdict was announced just a short while ago at Tbilisi City Court. Vashadze was not present during the court session.
Giorgi Vashadze had been summoned to appear before Parliament’s temporary investigative commission on April 15 but failed to show up. He is being charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which covers “failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Georgian Parliament.”
On April 23, the Tbilisi City Court imposed a GEL 50,000 bail as a preventive measure in the case concerning Vashadze’s failure to appear before the investigative commission, which he paid within the legally stipulated timeframe.
