Giorgi Vashadze: October 26 elections - referendum on isolation vs. EU prosperity

“The situation is apparent. Not only in Georgia but from the perspective of all our partners, October 26 has been declared a referendum – we are choosing between isolation and poverty or prosperity in the European Union. The door to the EU is open, our partners are waiting for us,” stated Giorgi Vashadze, one of the Unity-National Movement leaders.

According to Vashadze, a 14-billion fund has been prepared for Georgia.

“All the benefits that Georgia should receive are ready. Most importantly, EU membership will be the main guarantee of our sovereignty. Therefore, on October 26, the Georgian people must take a step forward. These elections are a referendum, and the Georgian people are deciding whether we will be an EU member or remain isolated and cut off from the outside world,” Vashadze noted.

In Vashadze’s assessment, the statement by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda regarding Georgia is crucial.

“Lithuania is our greatest ally, a state that has always been at the forefront of Georgia’s European integration process. When the Lithuanian President says this, it’s clear that we are facing a referendum – we are moving towards the EU, where the door is open, or the Georgian Dream will completely sever our ties with the civilized world and leave us in isolation. Let’s not think that relationships will break down. This is a path leading to poverty, back to the 90s. Our path leads to great development. I’m confident that after we win on the 26th, Lithuania will be the biggest contributor and supporter in helping Georgia quickly overcome this difficult situation,” Giorgi Vashadze declared.
