Giorgi Vashadze granted 30,000 GEL bail in sabotage case
Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party, has been granted bail of 30,000 GEL in a case concerning sabotage and aiding hostile activities of a foreign country.
The court also ordered Vashadze to surrender his passport and ID card to the investigative authorities and prohibited him from leaving the country. Vashadze confirmed that he will pay the bail.
Vashadze maintains that there is no evidence against him and has described the case as politically motivated.
In November, the Prosecutor General’s Office launched criminal proceedings against Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nika Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze. The investigation against Vashadze was initiated under Article 318 (part one) of the Criminal Code of Georgia — sabotage, and Article 319 — assisting a foreign country in hostile activities.
Earlier, Vashadze was sentenced to seven months in prison for failing to comply with a request from a temporary parliamentary investigative commission and was released on January 23.
