Giorgi Kalandarishvili will chair the Central Election Commission (CEC) for six months.
Eighty-three deputies backed him, while three went against at today’s extraordinary session of the Parliament.
MPs also backed Gia Tsatsashvili and Maia Zaridze to become CEC members.
Since the parliament failed three times to elect CEC Chair and its two members with a 3/5 majority vote, they will serve for six months.
Under the new election legislation, any CEC candidate elected without support from 2/3 of 150 MPs will be temporarily elected instead of five years.
