Giorgi Gakharia: Value of fight against criminals without human rights protection equals zero

The value of fight against criminals without human rights protection equals zero, – Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia said at the plenary session of Parliament this afternoon.

He started his address with focus on the planned and ongoing reforms in the Ministry.

According to him, one of the main directions the Ministry is working on is human rights.

“In January 2018 the Human Rights Department was established in order to improve the quality of investigations in the directions such as domestic violence and violence against women, the offenses committed on the ground of discrimination. The Department has worked out internal and external monitoring mechanisms, guidelines and recommendations for investigators, has active communication with NGOs and the Public Defender’s Office”, – Minister said.
