Gia Volski: UNM is exactly as it was in government; they just had more scope back then for sadistic rule

“Saakashvili’s posture drives the rift within the United National Movement. There was even a suggestion floated somewhere that Tina Bokuchava should be used as International Secretary, while Nanuka Zhorzholiani should head the development of extremist processes, with Saakashvili himself assuming a certain position in the party,” declared First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski.

According to Volski, while this formula was proposed, the internal conflict lacks any meaningful debate over ideas.

“The leader is the chieftain Saakashvili, who believes Zhorzholiani should take the helm because Bokuchava failed to deliver on the task of storming the prison. Khabeishvili failed to deliver on that objective too; despite intense infighting, the directives were not carried out. It appears Saakashvili deemed it necessary to mobilise greater force on the domestic front and believes Zhorzholiani will be more effective. He thinks Zhorzholiani will operate with greater efficacy in synchrony with external attacks against Georgia.

Effectively, Saakashvili has declared war. Look at how many attempts at revolution have been made, every single one bearing Saakashvili’s clear signature. Now he is attempting to pitch a new political line for the United National Movement with a fresh hairstyle and a new image. The core substance hasn’t changed; it has always been destabilisation, and Saakashvili has no intention of rising to a different intellectual level in future. A rebranding of the party is impossible because its underlying nature cannot change; only the executor of their objectives changes. Saakashvili assumes Zhorzholiani will mobilise greater resources.

The United National Movement’s core nature was exactly the same when they were in power; they simply had more resources back then to rule the country through sadistic methods. Today, they lack that capability, so their objective is revolution. The UNM’s fixation on revolution will not change, whether the party chair is Bokuchava, Khabeishvili, or Zhorzholiani. They are simply competing to see who can fuel the most destabilisation,” Volski stated.
