Federal Minister of the Interior and Community, Nancy Faeser has arrived in Tbilisi for her first official visit.

Deputy Georgian Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze and Georgian Ambassador to Germany Levan Izoria welcomed her at the airport.

Nancy Faeser will hold a meeting with her Georgian colleague Vakhtang Gomelauri.

“Notably, on December 15 of this year, the German Parliament passed a legislative act recognizing Georgia as a safe country. This move serves as a validation of Georgia’s democratic governance and attests to the effective protection of human rights by the Georgian state institutions,” reads the MIA press statement.

The Georgian and German governments will also sign the Agreement on Migration and Mobility, seeking to bolster collaboration in labor migration and education, with an emphasis on enhancing educational and internship initiatives for Georgian students and researchers.

“Additionally, the agreement outlines measures to intensify efforts against illegal migration, which includes strengthening cooperation on readmission and reintegration of citizens of Georgia violating visa-free travel regulations.

Notably, the Readmission program has been successfully carried out since March 1, 2011, after the Agreement between Georgia and the EU signed in 2010 on the readmission of persons residing without authorization entered into force,” according to the statement.
