German Bundestag's vice president to visit Georgia today

Vice-President of the German Bundestag Katrin Göring-Eckardt will visit Georgia today, the German Embassy to Georgia has said.

According to the statement, “Germany supports Georgia’s efforts to join the European Union. The vice-president wants to facilitate the timely fulfilment of obligations necessary for obtaining the EU candidate status.”

“Due to Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, Vice-President of the German Bundestag Katrin Göring-Eckardt will visit Georgia on July 18, 2022. Mrs Göring-Eckardt will learn about the war consequences and Georgia’s prospects. The Vice President will hold talks in Tbilisi with Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and the Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.

On top of that, on July 19, Mrs Göring-Eckardt will partake in a public discussion organized by the Heinrich Böll Foundation. On July 20, Katrin Göring-Eckardt will leave for Armenia,” the statement reads.
