German Ambassador: We had an extremely positive, constructive relationship with Georgia, we would like to get back to that
“We are friends and partners of Georgia. We would like Georgia to join the European Union. That is the biggest act of friendship that we can gift to the Georgian people,” said German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer.
According to the Ambassador, Germany wants to have a positive relationship with Georgia.
“We stand by the Georgian people. We want a positive relationship and we need to work on it. There is no intention to do anything against the Georgian people. As we stand here, NATO’s 75th Summit is happening in Washington D.C. Germany plays a leading role and is very firm against Russian aggression in any form.
We would like to have a positive relationship with Georgia. We had an extremely positive, constructive relationship with Georgia. Germany also supported the Georgian military with tens of millions of euros and we would like to get back to that.
The accession process and the EU policy is very easy to understand. All you have to do is read the EU treaties to understand what the EU is about. Read the Copenhagen criteria to know about what is required to join, read the evaluations of the Commission, and read the decision of the European Council. Those decisions are made by 27 heads of state and government such as Scholz, Macron and others. Those are political leaders and they decide on accession to the European Union. So, everyone can see for themselves what level that is,” he said.
