German Ambassador confirms to be formally summoned to Georgian Foreign Ministry
“I have been formally summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. A summoning is a form of diplomatic sanction. It is highly unusual between friendly states,” German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, told journalists ahead of his meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
According to Fischer, “this is the first time in the history of modern Georgia that a German ambassador has been summoned.”
“I will go in and hear what is going to be said to me. But I will also firmly refute baseless and inflammatory allegations that have been made against the Federal Republic of Germany, against myself, and against fellow ambassadors. And I will rebuke the present course of the Georgian government, which is contradictory to EU membership,” Peter Fischer concluded.
