“Some progress has been made with 12 priorities, and more progress should be made,” said German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer, remarking on the process of the EC’s 12-point recommendations fulfilment.
According to Ambassador Peter Fischer, 12 points are priorities for Georgia to achieve candidate status.
“This December, the European Council with 27 member heads of state and governments will decide by unanimity whether to give Georgia candidate status now. The candidate status is one step on the voyage. After candidate status comes negotiations to meet, what we say a full acquis of the European Union.
So, some progress has been made with 12 priorities, and more progress should be made but we are on the journey together, and December will be an important point, and I can only recommend making sure that we get Yes,” he said.
Ambassador said Germany supports Georgia’s candidate status but “provided the conditions are met.”
“In the face of challenges that we all face together, Germany has decided that we need to make the European Union stronger, and Georgia should be a part of it. We will all be stronger together and to move to the future with confidence and towards a good future,” he said.
German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer received an honourable doctorate award from the Georgian National University for his contribution to the European integration of Georgia.
“It is a double honour because that is a focus of my work as a German Ambassador here. Georgia wants to join the EU, and we want Georgia to join the EU. We think it’s a historical path, and we want to complete this historical path. The EU is the best guarantee of peace, stability and prosperity for all of us in the EU and all of our friends that will join us in the future,” he said.
