GeoStat: Georgia’s annual inflation hits 5.8% in June

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat), the consumer price index edged up by 0.1% in June 2026 compared to the previous month, while the annual headline inflation rate reached 5.8%.

According to GeoStat, the core inflation rate stood at 3.5% in June 2026 compared to the same period last year, while the annual core inflation rate excluding tobacco made 3.2%.

“The trajectory of the monthly inflation rate was predominantly shaped by price fluctuations across the following sectors:

Hotels, Cafés and Restaurants: Prices in this category climbed by 2.1%, contributing 0.08 percentage points to the overall monthly figure. Upward pressure was observed in both accommodation services (up 4.1%) and catering services (up 1.7%).

Transport: Prices in this sector rose by 0.6%, contributing 0.08 percentage points to the monthly inflation rate. The increase was primarily driven by transport services (up 2.9%) and the running costs of personal transport equipment (up 0.2%).

Clothing and Footwear: Prices in this group fell by 2.3%, deflating the monthly rate by 0.1 percentage points. Price drops were recorded across both clothing (-3.1%) and footwear (-0.6%) subcategories.

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages: Prices in this segment ticked down by 0.1%, contributing -0.07 percentage points to the monthly index. Decreases were prominent in milk, cheese, and eggs (-1.5%); sugar, jam and other confectionery (-1.3%); vegetables (-1.1%); and coffee, tea and cocoa (-0.7%).

Conversely, price increases were logged in the subcategories of fruit and grapes (up 3.3%), fish (up 1.5%), meat and meat products (up 0.5%), bread and cereals (up 0.1%), alongside mineral water, spring water, soft drinks and fruit juices (up 0.1%),” GeoStat’s official report noted.
