GeoStat Executive Director says population of Tbilisi and Batumi increased significantly
“The population of Tbilisi and Batumi increased significantly,” said Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat) at the parliamentary Economic Police Committee meeting.
According to Gogita Todradze, compared to the census conducted ten years ago, the population increased by 200 thousand and is now 3,914,000.
“The preliminary data indicate high urbanisation. The share of the city’s population was approximately 59% ten years ago, and today it has increased by 5% and is 64%.
The population of Tbilisi and Batumi increased significantly. If 155 thousand people lived in Batumi 10 years ago, the number is 235 thousand in 2025. The number of people residing in Tbilisi was 1,100,000 a decade ago, but it is now within 1,330,000,” he said.
The GeoStat Executive Director said the detailed information would be available in June 2026. It would provide details on the situation in regions and municipalities, gender, religious faith, age and other parameters.
