The National Statistics Office of Georgia reported that criminal proceedings were initiated against 2,029 individuals in January 2026, including 104 who committed offences before their probationary period had expired.

According to GeoStat, the highest number of cases initiated in January was recorded in Tbilisi, with 667 cases, followed by Adjara with 263, and 21 cases in the occupied region of Abkhazia.

The distribution of proceedings by specific articles of the Criminal Code for January 2026 is as follows: theft – 280 cases; threats – 253; domestic violence – 182; assault – 189; rape – six cases; depraved acts – three; fraud – 70; illegal purchase or possession of narcotics, analogues, precursors, or new psychoactive substances – 536; illegal sowing, cultivation, or growing of narcotic-containing plants – 8; and making fake documents – 105.
