GeoStat: Construction Cost Index up 0.8% in July, driven by rising sector wages

Georgia’s Construction Cost Index rose by 0.8% in July 2026 compared to the previous month, and by 4.3% year-on-year, according to figures released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat).

Across individual sectors, the residential construction index edged down by 1.3% month-on-month, whilst remaining 0.5% higher year-on-year. The non-residential segment climbed by 5.1% compared to June and 8.2% compared to July 2025. Meanwhile, the civil engineering index rose 1.0% month-on-month and 6.4% year-on-year.

GeoStat noted that a 6.4% surge in average monthly nominal wages for hired construction workers has predominantly driven the 0.8% monthly rise in the overall index, contributing 1.12 percentage points to the total index change.

“Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the Construction Cost Index increased by 4.3%. This annual growth was mainly fueled by a 15.2% price increase in the transport, fuel, and electricity category, coupled with a 3.6% rise in average monthly nominal wages for construction personnel, contributing 1.81 and 1.43 percentage points to the overall change, respectively. Furthermore, compared to February 2022, the Construction Cost Index has increased by 30.3%,” GeoStat stated in its report.
