Geostat: Building permits up while completed property deliveries fall in Jan–Sept 2026
According to figures released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), 8,632 construction permits were granted between January and September 2026, a modest 0.4% rise on the corresponding period in 2025. In total, the authorisations account for over 8.65 million square metres of planned construction.
According to Geostat, nearly three-quarters of all issued permits are concentrated in four regions. Tbilisi accounts for the lion’s share of upcoming construction work at 48.1%, followed by Kvemo Kartli (8.9%), Kakheti (8.2%), and the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (7.8%).
During the nine-month reporting period, authorisations were granted for a range of developments, including multi-functional residential complexes, commercial trade centres, hotels, industrial plants, and agricultural structures.
Concurrently, Geostat reported a contraction in property completions. A total of 2,307 properties covering 2,543,600 square metres were officially commissioned into service during January–September 2026, marking a 5.9% decline compared to the same period in 2025.
More than two-thirds of the newly commissioned properties are located in four regions, with Tbilisi leading at 32.5%, followed by Mtskheta-Mtianeti (13.9%), Kakheti (12.2%), and Kvemo Kartli (8.6%).
