GeoStat: April inflation rate per HICP methodology at 2.3%

Georgian National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported that the inflation rate in April based on the EU’s HICP methodology stands at 2.3%, which is 0.4% lower than the rate calculated by the national method.

The HICP is a cost of goods and services index, i.e. it measures the changing cost of a fixed basket of goods and services over time.

Price changes for the following groups mainly influenced the monthly inflation rate: food and non-alcoholic beverages – 5.1%; Alcoholic beverages and tobacco – 6.8%; Clothing and footwear – 1.5%; Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels – 9.2%; Furnishings, household equipment and maintenance – 6.1%; Health – 8.2%; Transport – 13.7%; Communication – 3.0%; Recreation and culture – 3.3%; Education – 7.0%; Restaurants and hotels – 10.8%; Miscellaneous goods and services – 11.3%.
