Georgia’s PM: We wish to restore our strategic partnership with the US; we will patiently await a reciprocal position

“The US Embassy’s statement is completely incomprehensible to me, particularly given that, under the previous administration, the US Embassy was one of the primary actors attempting to stoke hatred in Georgia artificially,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

The Prime Minister was asked to comment on a statement from the US Embassy reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, in which the Embassy expressed “concern over the Department for Combating Hate Speech”.

According to the head of government, the Georgian authorities desire the restoration of strategic partnership with the United States and will patiently await a reciprocal step from the American side.

“As for the US Embassy’s statement, it is completely incomprehensible to me. Especially against the backdrop where, under the previous administration, the US Embassy was among the principal entities attempting to stoke hatred artificially and propagate falsehoods in Georgia. Consequently, this statement from the Embassy makes no sense to me. However, that is their affair. We must do everything to prevent the spread of hatred within Georgian society. As for Georgian-American relations, we remain in wait-and-see mode and continue to maintain our optimism. Our wish is for the strategic partnership to be restored, and we will patiently await a reciprocal gesture from the American side,” the Prime Minister stated.
