Georgia’s PM: Nauru’s revocation of ties with occupied territories confirms respect for international law is bedrock of healthy relations

“The decision by the Republic of Nauru to revoke diplomatic relations with the so-called Republic of Abkhazia and the so-called Republic of South Ossetia demonstrates once again that respect for and adherence to the norms of international law constitute the bedrock of healthy international relations,” the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated at today’s cabinet meeting.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili and to every diplomat involved.

“On July 21, the Government of the Republic of Nauru decided to revoke diplomatic relations with the so-called Republic of Abkhazia and the so-called Republic of South Ossetia. This decision demonstrates once again that respect for and adherence to the norms of international law form the bedrock of healthy international relations. Georgia stands ready to establish formal diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nauru and to foster deeper cooperation.

I want to express my gratitude to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, and to every diplomat who works tirelessly to execute our successful non-recognition policy,” the Prime Minister stated.
