Georgia’s Interior Ministry thwarts major drug smuggling and seizes over one million GEL in cocaine
Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have apprehended a Russian national, identified as A.G., born in 1989, on charges of illegal possession, storage, and smuggling of a substantial quantity of narcotics into Georgia. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a statement regarding the incident.
Law enforcement officials discovered 1 kilogram and 200 grams of cocaine hidden in a specially prepared compartment within the detainee’s travel bag at Tbilisi International Airport. The street value of the seized substance exceeds one million Georgian Lari on the black market.
The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
