Georgia’s grape harvest reaches 300,000 tons

As of October 7, 300,000 tons of grapes have been processed in Georgia, setting a record in the history of independent Georgia, according to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The grape harvest is nearing completion in Kakheti and has already concluded in Racha. Currently, harvesting is actively underway in the Lechkhumi region.

Of the total grapes processed, 296,000 tons come from Kakheti, 1,700 tons from Racha, 304 tons from Lechkhumi, and the remainder from other wine-growing regions across the country. The revenue from grape sales has reached 450 million GEL, with 20,000 winegrowers participating so far.

A total of 486 wine companies and wineries have been involved in the harvest this year.

To support farmers, ensure grape quality, and promote the stable development of the wine industry, the Georgian government is providing subsidies. In the Kakheti region, companies paying at least 1.00 GEL per kg for Rkatsiteli grapes are eligible for state subsidies. Additionally, from September 13, Harvest Management Company Ltd. is purchasing Saperavi grapes from farmers at 1.50 GEL per kg.

In the Racha region, companies that pay at least 8 GEL per kg for Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone will receive a subsidy of 4 GEL per kg.
