Georgia’s bank deposits reach GEL 75.62 billion at end of August, NBG says
The volume of deposits placed in Georgia’s banking sector, excluding interbank deposits, amounted to GEL 75.62 billion at the end of August 2026, according to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
The figure increased by GEL 1.69 billion, or 2.28%, compared with the end of the previous month.
According to the central bank, annual deposit growth, excluding the effect of exchange-rate fluctuations, stood at 21.67%.
During August, term deposits increased by GEL 626.70 million, or 1.71%, compared with the previous month, while demand deposits increased by GEL 1.06 billion, or 2.84%.
According to the NBG report, the deposit larization ratio stood at 56.81% at the end of August 2026, up 0.01 percentage points from the end of the previous month.
Meanwhile, the average weighted market annual interest rate on term deposits stood at 6.78% in August. The average rate was 8.68% for deposits denominated in the national currency and 2.31% for foreign-currency deposits.
Of foreign-currency-denominated deposits, US dollar deposits accounted for 77.45%, while euro deposits accounted for 20.00%.
