A rally in support of Belarusians was held today in front of the Embassy of Belarus in Tbilisi.
Representatives of the Belarusian diaspora attended the rally with national flags and created human chain in front of the Embassy.
The protesters responded to the ongoing processes after the presidential election in Belarus and said today’s performance is a symbolic repetition of the peaceful rally took place in the Baltics on August 23, 1989, when an estimated two million people held hands to push back against the Soviet Union, call for independence, and attempt to gain international attention.
“All together, those who do not tolerate dictatorship, violence, undemocratic rule, must ensure everyone’s voice is heard. No one can retain power through rigged elections and violence,” said Elene Khoshtaria, a member of European Georgia.
