Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE) stated that operating the power grid in isolated mode at off-nominal frequencies at the Enguri Hydroelectric Power Plant caused a temporary nationwide power cut.

They further explained that power supplies have now been partially restored and will be fully reconnected shortly.

“Following the system-wide blackouts in the country on July 24–25, certain technical works were underway at the Enguri Hydroelectric Power Plant. Specifically, it was necessary to operate the power grid in isolated mode at frequencies differing from the nominal value to inspect the relevant plant equipment, resulting in a temporary nationwide power outage.

Immediate measures were implemented to restore electricity, as a result of which power supplies have already been partially restored. Power supply across the entire country will be fully restored shortly,” the statement reads.
