Georgian Special Operations Forces are present at Parliament of Georgia.

Meanwhile, protesters blocked all three entrances to the Parliament and pitched the tents. As opposition leaders said, they will not allow lawmakers to enter the building.

Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA) said that in case of the attack against administrative bodies or attempt of continuation of their blockage, the police will react accordingly, within the mandate provided by the law.

‘Georgian Dream’ party has refused to discuss any new initiatives regarding the electoral system, responding to the protests in Tbilisi demanding a fully proportional electoral system from 2020 earlier today.

The EU Delegation and the US Embassy to Georgia released the statement regarding ongoing events in Tbilisi and said that Embassy of the United States of America and the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia recognize the deep disappointment of a wide segment of Georgian society at the failure of Parliament to pass the constitutional amendments required to move to fully proportional parliamentary elections in 2020.

Opposition and civic activists are holding demonstrations amid the parliament’s rejection of the electoral bill which envisaged to move from a mixed electoral system to a proportional one.
