Georgian President meets Pope Leo XIV

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has met with Pope Leo XIV. The President once again congratulated His Holiness on his election as the head of the Catholic Church and stated that the beginning of his pontificate “represents a symbol of hope for the future, spiritual renewal and unity for the entire world.”

According to the Georgian President’s Administration, the parties discussed the existing relationship between Georgia and the Holy See and prospects for strengthening cooperation.

Mikheil Kavelashvili said that “the connection based on Christian values is an important foundation for close partnership.”

The President also thanked the Pope for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

For his part, Pope Leo XIV emphasised the importance of establishing peace in the world during his conversation with the Georgian President and expressed readiness to deepen the existing partnership with Georgia.

Mikheil Kavelashvili invited the head of the Catholic Church to visit Georgia.
