Georgian President holds farewell meeting with Chinese Ambassador

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili held a farewell meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Georgia, Zhou Qian.

According to the Presidential Administration, the two sides positively assessed the development of Georgia–China relations during Ambassador Zhou’s diplomatic mission, including the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The meeting also focused on the practical outcomes of closer political ties, including the introduction of a mutual visa-free regime, the restoration and expansion of direct flights, stronger connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative, the advancement of free trade opportunities, and the agreement on the mutual recognition of higher education diplomas.

The sides also discussed the future agenda for Georgia–China cooperation, including strengthening ties between scientific and research institutions and expanding collaboration in the technology sector.

“The importance of maintaining high-level political dialogue and further developing a results-oriented partnership was emphasized,” the Presidential Administration said in a statement.

According to the administration, President Kavelashvili thanked Ambassador Zhou for his diplomatic service in Georgia and wished him success in his future professional endeavors.
