Georgian President echoes EU Ambassador's statements

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili echoed the statements of the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński.

The President said “it was time for worries” remarking on the EU’s decision to freeze its support for Georgia from the European Peace Facility – EURO 30 million for 2024 that followed the US decision to indefinitely postpone the Noble Partner exercise in Georgia.

“This is a response to the government’s anti-western and anti-European activities and rhetoric and the response to the fact that all their recommendations and warnings remained without a reaction,” she said.

President believes that the government could “symbolically withdraw that unnecessary Russian law” while it kept saying that Georgia would “still join the EU” or that “military exercise was mutually beneficial” for the US and Georgia.

“These grave messages from our closest friends are noteworthy. This is indeed a response to the ruling party’s irrational and hostile policy toward them but it is also a warning for the society. Our partners tell us that the choice is up to us between Europe, a protected future, or the Russian isolated orbit. They tell us that these law (laws) and this unfriendly behavior are incompatible with the European or US constant support.

This is for those who still stubbornly and without argument keep repeating the question dictated from above: “Why is this law Russian?” Why and that’s why,” Salome Zourabichvili wrote.
