Georgian PM receives condolence letter from President of Uzbekistan

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze received a condolence letter from President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev over the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

The President of Uzbekistan expressed deep sorrow and sympathy to the PM and the Georgian people.

“It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the sad news of the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness Ilia II. I am confident that the bright memory of this outstanding person, a loyal and devoted son of the homeland, will forever remain in the hearts of the Georgian people, who contributed a lot to building up religious tolerance, peace and national accord, popularization of high ideals of humanism and strengthening the society’s spiritual foundations. In these difficult and sad days, on behalf of myself and the multinational country and Uzbekistani people, I express my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to you and the friendly Georgian people,” reads the condolence letter.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II passed away on March 17 at the age of 93.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, will be laid to rest on Sunday, March 22, in the Sioni Cathedral.
